3What happens, and why
HEIC is the iPhone’s default photo format. Half the size of JPG at the same quality, but Windows and many websites cannot open it. iPhone and iPad cameras have saved in it by default since iOS 11. BMP is the uncompressed Windows bitmap. The pixels are stored as they are, so files are large, and there is no transparency.
Converted to BMP, the photo opens as is on Windows, on older Macs, and in most websites and office programs. BMP is large because it is uncompressed, but Paint and older devices and programs open it without fail.
The file is opened and converted inside this browser and never sent to a server. BMP is a lossless format, so not one pixel changes. Camera metadata (EXIF) is not carried over, so no location data remains in the result. You can add several files at once.

BMP is lossless, so the pixels are unchanged. Open the result next to the source and they match.
What happens to a transparent background
BMP cannot store transparency. Transparent areas are filled with white. If you need a transparent background, choose PNG or WebP.
Where does my file go
Nowhere. The conversion finishes inside this browser, and camera metadata (EXIF, location) is not carried into the result.
