JPG is the lossy compression format for photographs. It opens everywhere and cannot store a transparent background. Cameras, Android phones and most websites save in it. BMP is the uncompressed Windows bitmap. The pixels are stored as they are, so files are large, and there is no transparency.
BMP is large because it is uncompressed, but Paint and older devices and programs open it without fail.
The file is opened and converted inside this browser and never sent to a server. BMP is a lossless format, so not one pixel changes. Camera metadata (EXIF) is not carried over, so no location data remains in the result. You can add several files at once.
