PNG is a lossless format. Every pixel is kept exactly and it stores transparency. Photographs come out far larger than JPG. Screenshots, logo and icon work, and exports from design tools produce it. WebP is Google’s format for the web. At the same quality it is smaller than JPG, and it has transparency and a lossless mode.
For images going onto a website, WebP is smaller at the same quality, so the page loads faster.
The file is opened and converted inside this browser and never sent to a server. Because the source is a lossless format, the result is written as lossless WebP. Not one pixel changes. Camera metadata (EXIF) is not carried over, so no location data remains in the result. You can add several files at once.
