WebP is Google’s format for the web. At the same quality it is smaller than JPG, and it has transparency and a lossless mode. Images saved from websites and anything optimised for the web come in it. PNG is a lossless format. Every pixel is kept exactly and it stores transparency. Photographs come out far larger than JPG.
PNG is what you need when a program cannot open WebP, or when a print shop asks for a file it can read.
The file is opened and converted inside this browser and never sent to a server. PNG is a lossless format, so not one pixel changes. Camera metadata (EXIF) is not carried over, so no location data remains in the result. You can add several files at once.
